The Making of the Nursery

Well...to say that this post is a wee-bit late would be an understatement, since my daughter is now 1.5 years old!  But anyone who knows me well, knows that I am chronically late...I know...that's awful...and I'm not proud of it...and it literally drives my husband crazy....but...well...that's just me...maybe someday I'll make a change...maybe....I really want to....really....but anyway, this post is not about my shortcomings...I'm sure I could do a lot of posts on those....so back to topic...the nursery....

If you've had a baby of your own, then you know that there are a lot of really exciting things going on during that first pregnancy.  Of course, loving home decorating, putting together the nursery was one of the big highlights for me.  I wanted it to be perfect for her!!  I was SO excited!!

We started out with this...

Well...sort of....actually we had already moved out the exercise bike and painted the room blue (ha, too bad we weren't having a boy)....and we had put a daybed on that long wall.  Unfortunately, I can't find a picture of the room in this stage.  But who cares...we are all really here for the after pictures anyway....right?....so....

The next step was to paint the room.  My Mom, Dad, and Sister came for the weekend to help with the painting...but as of Saturday morning I still hadn't picked the color....so I decided to go with a "neutral" and add the color in with the accessories.  So after the room was painted it looked like this....

Next, furniture....wow...baby furniture....is....expensive....who knew??  But it was fun shopping...we decided to go with something that could grow with her, so we got the crib that would convert to a toddler bed and eventually a full size bed.  I hope she likes it, because she's going to have it for a LOOONG time!!

Here is the hubs working hard on getting it all put together:

And here's the furniture all put together....

And yes...that is a TV over the chest of drawers....it was a birthday present for me from the hubs....I think he knew how much time I was going to be spending in there and he wanted me to maintain some sense of sanity (thanks babe!).

The furniture was purchased at Baby's 1st Furniture in Houston.  It is made by Munire and can be found here and here.  It looks really nice and is actually very modern.  I really only have one complaint...the finish on this furniture comes off quite easily.  We had only had this furniture a few weeks and noticed that our changing pad had rubbed off some of the "finish" on the changing table.  Ugh!  Also, I noticed the other day that our daughters little teeth had made a few marks on the crib.  Oh well...you can't have it all...but you might want to buy the protection plan if you decide to get similar furniture (we didn't....darn....).

I also fell in love with these letters...

These were purchased at Baby's 1st Furniture, but I realize now that I could easily have made something similar (but this was before I stopped working...back when I was much more into buying something than DIYing something).  But these letters really are cute...with an adorable glittery lavender color.

Of course our "first baby"....our dog, Drako....had to make his presence known as well, so Drako and Daddy came up with a gift for the new baby...which led to this....

It is actually a canvas with some super cute pics of Drako...oh how I love that little (60 lb!!) dog!!  We had someone that we found online make this for us, but I am thinking that anyone with some photoshop skills could probably do the same....

And perhaps most importantly...I got this....

It is a glider / recliner...and...I...LOVE...it!!  All Mommy's should be allowed to get one of these!  You spend so much time in the baby's room...having a good chair is a must!!  Seriously, if I could go back and only get one thing...then this would be it!  Rocking a precious baby to sleep is a priceless moment and even better when you are in a great chair.

The chair is made by Little Castle and the fabric is called Chocolate Check (great to hide milk stains, etc).  We bought it at Baby's 1st Furniture, but I believe you can now get some Little Castle chairs through Babies R Us (but they aren't called Little Castle on their site)....the one shown above can be found here.  The chair at Babies R Us is a LOT cheaper, than what we paid!!

Ok, so finally...here we are....with the complete finished Nursery...ready for our precious girl....

I hope you love it as much as we do!  It is such a cozy place and perfect for getting some precious snuggles from our little girl!!

Until next time....

Wow....Just Wow!!

Wow! This is so exciting!! I have been talking about starting this blog for a while now, so it is a bit surreal to actually see it come to life.  I don't really know what has taken me so long to get going, but recently the hubs gave me the go ahead to get one of these...

It's not that I needed permission or anything....just more like agreement....that's how we roll here at our house...there needs to be agreement for any "big" purchases (and that works both ways :)).

It is a Gateway Netbook Computer.  I checked out all the options and this one met most of my criteria...with the main requirement being that it be small.  I have a larger laptop, but really wanted something that I could take with me anywhere....while carrying a diaper bag....and a kid.....and juggling a cup of coffee coke...and talking on my cell.....I know all you peeps out there know what I'm talking about....So...now I've got the computer....and the excitement....and now this blog is off and running!!  Yahoo!!

It's been a little over 1.5 years since I left my "big" corporate job and in that short time I have learned a lot....I won't try to get into all of that now....but I'm sure it will slowly spill out in this blog over time.  I am really excited and I hope that some of my excitement will encourage you all as well.  This blog is going to be fun and you'll get to see my plans, schemes, attempts, failure, and probably a lot more as I show you all how I am making our house into a home and attempting to make something extraordinary out of the ordinary.

I'm looking forward to this ride....and I hope you guys are too!!

XOXO,
Kristal
